Dorothy Jean (Overstreet) Mendenhall

This is the Pic video I made for my grandmother's funeral which by the way was in my back yard. Yep..my back yard. Grandmother passed away March 31, 2012. Her funeral was April 1, 2012..That's right 1 day! 1 day to clean. 1 day to prepare. 1 day to set up...No days to morn. Rushing to get everything ready.  I felt like I was doing it all...and I know that's not true, but i wanted her funeral to be as beautiful as she was. I wanted it to be perfect because to me she was perfect! I really miss her and still try to talk with her sometimes.
Miss you Grandmother

 (Dorothy Jean Overstreet Mendenhall)

Dorothy Mendenhall

Mrs. Dorothy Jean Mendenhall, age 79 of Burns, TN died Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Lyles home of her daughter Danita Parker.
The family invites friends to the residence at 1805 Spencers Mill Rd from 2:00 - 4:00 PM Sunday, April 1. Services to celebrate Dorothy’s life will begin at 4:00 PM under the shade of the blooming trees that Dorothy so loved. They will conclude with military honors provided by the United States Air Force. Heritage Funeral Home - Columbia is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dorothy was born on May 28, 1932 in Nashville, TN to Sam and Anita Kirkpatrick Overstreet. At the insistence of her family she entered nursing school right out of high school. Three months prior to completing her training to become a registered nurse, Dorothy decided to join the military and follow the path she desired.
As fate would have it, because of her prior training, Dorothy was placed in a surgical hospital during her military career and became an LPN. During her military service, she walked into a dining hall and “sat down next to me,” recalls her husband. “She’s never gone away since then.”
Following her service to our country, Dorothy worked with the Infant Heart Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and later as a LPN with Goodlark Hospital.
Her love for people and her passion for life will be missed by those who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years: Ralph Mendenhall of Burns, TN; a son: Gary Mendenhall of Dickson, TN; two daughters: Danita Parker of Lyles, TN and Vicki Mendenhall of Hickman Co; a brother: Sam Overstreet of Franklin, TN; 5 grandchildren, Kara Baker (Bobby), Cameron Parris (Eric), Jordan Parker and Logan Parker and 5 great-grandchildren Tatum Baker, Charlie Roland, Jayden Baker, Rorie Roland, Braylyn Parris, and Kenlee Parker. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a brother: Clarence Overstreet.

Note: Uncle Sam Overstreet Jr. passed away 8/7/2012
SAM OVERSTREET, JR., Mr. Sam as born on January 1, 1937 in Nashville, Tennessee, the first baby born in Nashville that year. Sam started work as a truck driver for Farmers Construction Company in May of 1953 and stayed with them until the 1980s when the company ceased operation. During that time he was a dragline operator, heavy equipment operator and mechanic. After that, he worked for B.H. Williams Construction until 1987, when that company ceased operation. Better Late than never 2012

Well so far the fist 6 months of 2012 have been busy.

On March 31st, we lost my beautiful, wonderful grandmother.  She was 79 years old. She is very much missed. But I think somehow it brought family members closer than before. A week before she passed I had a chance to be with her. Even though she was very tired and looked like she was sleeping, I told her that I loved her and she tried real hard to say it back. Even though the words just couldn't come out....I know what she was trying to say. So I just sat there beside her holding my hand and letting her rub it with her thumb. I made a pic video (which I will post separably).

In May the kids have finished School. Tatum moves on to the Middle School this fall and  Jayden will start at Stuart Burns, theey both excited to be starting new schools.

They both were in Softball/baseball this year with DCYAA.

2nd annual Vampire Stalking 2012

Nina Dobev and I in Covington, GA

.Vampire Stalking 2012 started out perfectly. We drove all day to Covington, GA for another year of Vampire Stalking for TVD!  When we arrived we checked into our hotel and then hightailed it to look for Vampires! We drove around and happen upon some filming trucks unloading equipment, so we inquired if TVD was filming....OH they were...the next day... BINOGO. Our first sighting opportunity. So after no sleep (to excited) the next day we went Stalking. Even with my Best Friend Erin giving the Vampires a heads up. I still found them. They can't hide from me! lol. Love her humor!

As you can see I had an oppertunity to me Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) from The Vampire Dairies! As well as Claire Holt (Rebekah Michaelson). Paul Wesley was there however he didn't want to take time out to meet his fans that waited all day. Other than that best day ever!

Dickson Dolphins 2011 Homecoming Princess
So the Dickson Dolphins had there homecoming...on a Friday Night!!! Didn't like that. But We were told a couple of weeks ago that Tatum would be Homecoming Princess. I am so excited for her. It was again hard to keep this secret from her. I have video...coming soon....of her just so unaware until Coach Sarah puts on her sash and she read it...the BIG smile on her face says so much. I really love my baby girl and I am so proud of her. Tatum is an amazing young lady and I'm not saying this because she my daughter! She is very friendly and helps out her family..she deserved this.

Chattanooga, TN

My Husband and I took a trip to Chattanooga. I know we live in Tennessee, but we have never gone to Chattanooga and visited, passed through a few time on the way to Georgia. So we decided (along with some great friends of ours) to take an overnight trip. We drove to Chatt on Saturday morning we visited Ruby Falls and we went on a not so scary ghost tour through downtown. It was full of ghost history. I never got that weird feeling someone was standing beside me,but liked it just same. Sunday morning before we left for home we stopped at The Tennessee Aquarium. I did feel guilty that my children weren't with me but i had such a good time.

So the next day we spent a great deal of the day with each other. I really miss her. I wish we had stayed in touch more. But catching up with her was nice.
Well yesterday I found out that Baby Brayden isn't doing so well. Please keep the Salazar family in your prayers. My Best Friend really needs them.

I Won Something......Again

I enter a contest to win 4 tickets to the Nascar Sprint All-Star Race on May 21, 2011 and ...........................I got them. I won the tickets. Now who do we want to take with us. Hummmmm!

Spring 2011 Sports

So Tatum has started Sports again. Of course Soccer and she added something new to the mix, softball. This is her 2nd year of soccer and 1st in Softball, This past weekend (4/2/11) Tatum has 2 soccer games. Let me tell you , I am one happy momma! She played goalie for the first time. (Previous season they didn't have goalies)

She knew what she was doing. She played goalie the second half of the game. She took a ball in the gut and just kicked that ball down the field. The coach wants her to be goalie again this weekend. That's my girl. Now as for softball, she is getting the hang of it. however most of the girls on her team have been playing since they were 4 or 5. She has a lot to learn but I have faith in her. We will just have to teach her.

I played softball for 1 year when I was 12 or 13. I loved it, but I was terrible at it so I didn't play again because I thought I was letting my team down just by playing. And I did it because it let me spend more time with my Best Friend Erin Chumley.

One of the funny parts is that Tatum's Team name is Tennsco, which is where Bobby works. So we have to support Tennsco everywhere! :)

Tatum seems to enjoy it and right now there are no conflicts with her doing soccer and softball at the same time. So I guess time can only tell.
